Acquisitions, dispositions, leasing, development, and financing for commercial and investment property across Texas.
Austin, Texas Business Counsel
Lackey & Smith PLLC is an Austin-based firm advising clients on business, real estate, litigation, sports, and entertainment matters — with the judgment of a long-tenured practice and the responsiveness of a small firm.

The Firm
We work with founders, operators, investors, and individuals who value direct, experienced legal counsel without the layers of a larger firm. Our practice is intentionally focused so that we can be deeply useful in the matters we handle.
The work is relationship-driven and oriented toward outcomes — protecting what clients have built, closing the next deal cleanly, and resolving disputes in a way that lets them keep doing business.
Practice Areas
A focused set of practice areas, handled with clear guidance and practical judgment.
Acquisitions, dispositions, leasing, development, and financing for commercial and investment property across Texas.
Formation, governance, contracts, and M&A guidance for closely held companies and their owners.
Considered, efficient representation in business, contract, and commercial disputes — in negotiation and at trial.
Counsel for athletes, creators, agencies, and brands on representation, licensing, and sponsorship matters.
Ongoing outside-counsel support for day-to-day legal questions and longer-horizon strategic decisions.

Over the course of his career, he has represented owners, developers, landlords, and tenants across leasing, acquisition, development, planning, construction, and sales matters, as well as mortgage lenders on a range of lending issues.
How We Work
The principles below are how we choose matters, communicate with clients, and decide where to invest our attention.
Plainly stated advice grounded in your business goals — not abstract theory.
We invest in clients we expect to work with for years, not single matters.
Direct answers, predictable updates, and no jargon for its own sake.
Each matter is approached with judgment about cost, leverage, and outcome.
We understand the commercial context behind the legal question.
